When I woke up early a few weeks ago, I was overjoyed! The birds were tweeting and for the first time in four months, I didn't feel like I was stepping outside into darkness...SPRING WAS HERE!

I was elated. I broke out my open-toed shoes, swapped my Winter sweaters for my Spring dresses. Logged onto JCrew.com and ordered a pair of new leather flip flops. It was all happening! I couldn't wait to ditch my boots for cuter footwear. I was already planning our first BBQ in my head...
...and then, TWO MORE miserable weeks of winter-like weather! Torture. Cold weather, two snow falls (and not little ones) and now, rain! Yet, I am keeping the faith.

I was home with my sick little one yesterday (I started a fire it was so frigid and dreary!) and found a glimmer of optimism in the long-range forecast for the northwest corner of Connecticut. Starting tomorrow, the weather is looking up! SPRING IS BACK! I mean, I NEED it to be...

With warm weather in the mix, I thought...what a great excuse to get my girls outside. I want them to be excited about the season change and all that comes with it. I want them to want to explore the amazing area we live in (Berkshire foothills, Appalachian Trail) so last night I designed this 'Get Outside' Scavenger Hunt Check-List (download it for free below) to help with my plans.

I figured what better way to inspire some excitement in our kids' then to give them a MISSION! A mission that you can print out and visually follow no matter what your reading level. This weekend, with check-list in hand, we'll head out to our usual walking path and try our hand at finding all of the items. We'll bring a cool bag to put everything in and dress ridiculously--I'm sure we'll have binoculars and hats! At the end of the day, I think we'll make a date for hot chocolates at our local coffee shop and maybe even pick out a 'job well done' pastry !

I hope you'll get outside and do the same--make it your family mission!

What a great way to tap into a child's natural curiosity of nature.
